The Gelders Geological Museum is situated in Velp in the province of Gelderland, in the eastern part of the Netherlands.

In the museum an extensive collection of minerals from all over the world is displayed. The specimens are arranged according to the system of Strunz.

Fossils dating from the Cambrian to the Neogene are exhibited on the first floor. Among these are remains of plants from the Carboniferous and mammalian bones from the Pleistocene.

The last cold stage but one – the Saalian or Wolstonian Stage – brought many rocks from Scandinavia to the Netherlands, and the museum boasts a collection of considerable quality. The Scandinavian origin of these erratics may be demonstrated by comparing them with fresh rock samples from countries such as Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

Children may participate in activities, such as a search through the museum (If their answers are correct, they will get a little prize) or polishing stones under guidance.

The museum is closed at: Easter Sunday and Easter Monday Whitsunday and Whitmonday Christmas Day and Boxing Day New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
